Exactly what happens, in order
Upload the drawing
PDF, STEP, or DXF. ForgePilot reads the title block, tolerance callouts, and GD&T symbols directly.
Get every issue flagged
Missing datums, incomplete tolerance blocks, non-standard thread callouts, unspecified surface finish, each cited against the ASME Y14.5 clause it violates.
Get the exact correction
Not just 'this is wrong', the specific callout to change it to, so it's ready before it goes to the machine shop.
Real output, not a mockup
This is what you get back
From a hydraulic fitting drawing, 316L SS, ASME Y14.5-2018.
Critical, missing datum reference
The bore concentricity callout ⌀0.05 references only Datum A. §10.7.3 requires a complete reference frame.
Correction: change to ⊙ | ⌀0.05 | A | B
Critical, non-standard thread callout
Port thread called out as both "1/4" NPT" and "G¼" on the same drawing, tapered and parallel threads are not interchangeable for a hydraulic seal.
Correction: standardize on one, G¼-A for a face-seal O-ring.

True position calculator
Diametric position tolerance with bonus tolerance from a material condition modifier.

⌀0.200 mm · PASS
Diametric zone per ASME Y14.5: position error = 2×√(X²+Y²). Done client-side, nothing sent anywhere. For datum reference frame validation and full drawing review, run it in the full workspace.
Full drawing review, freeWhat it catches
The errors that cost you at the shop
Missing datum detection
Feature control frames without datum references, datum features that are never established, and datum precedence issues, flagged with the exact location on the drawing.
Tolerance completeness check
Dimensions with no tolerance, title-block defaults silently doing safety-critical work, and tolerance stack conflicts between views.
Callout and note review
Surface finish callouts, thread specifications, weld symbols, and material notes checked for completeness and internal consistency.
Review in seconds, not meetings
Upload a drawing PDF, DXF, or image and get a structured findings list instantly, severity-ranked, with what to fix and why it matters.
Catch it before the shop does
A missing tolerance found at the machine shop costs a phone call, a delay, and sometimes scrapped parts. Found at review, it costs one edit.
Export the review as a report
One click exports the findings as a formatted engineering report, ready to attach to the drawing package or design review minutes.
Where drawing review actually hurts
Anywhere a drawing leaves your desk and a mistake becomes expensive.
Pre-release drawing review
Final completeness gate before a drawing goes to manufacturing or a vendor.
Junior engineer safety net
A second set of eyes for engineers who don't have a senior checker reviewing their drawings.
Vendor drawing intake
Check incoming supplier drawings for ambiguities before quoting or accepting them.
Design review preparation
Walk into the review with the obvious findings already fixed.
Student competition documentation
Formula Student and BAJA teams checking drawings before scrutineering deadlines.
Legacy drawing cleanup
Audit old drawings for missing GD&T when migrating to a new PLM or vendor.
Frequently asked questions
Is the true position calculator on this page free?
Yes. Enter your stated position tolerance, material condition modifier, and measured deviation, and it computes bonus tolerance, total position tolerance, and pass or fail instantly, entirely in your browser, no sign-in, no data sent anywhere. For full drawing review, missing datums, and callout audits, use the full workspace, also free to start.
What does a GD&T drawing checker do?
It reviews an engineering drawing against Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing practice: are datums established and referenced correctly, does every feature have a tolerance, are feature control frames complete, and are callouts consistent. ForgePilot reads your uploaded drawing and returns a structured findings list in seconds.
What file formats can I upload?
Drawing PDFs, DXF files, and images (PNG/JPG) of drawings. You can also upload the related STEP model or spec sheet in the same session for cross-checking.
Does it replace a human checker?
No, it makes the human review faster and better. ForgePilot catches the mechanical completeness issues (missing datums, untoleranced dimensions, inconsistent callouts) so your reviewer's time goes to design intent, not proofreading.
Which GD&T standard does it follow?
ForgePilot reasons against ASME Y14.5 practice by default and understands ISO GPS conventions. Tell it which standard your organization follows and it will review against that.
What is a datum in GD&T?
A datum is a reference point, line, or surface established on a part that geometric tolerances are measured from, the common reference every inspector and machinist uses so a dimension means the same thing to everyone. Datums are labeled with a letter (A, B, C) on the drawing and referenced inside feature control frames. Without a correctly established datum reference frame, a position or profile tolerance has no fixed point to measure from, which is one of the most common findings ForgePilot flags on incomplete drawings.
What is the difference between a datum and a datum feature?
A datum feature is the actual physical feature on the part, a hole, a face, an edge, used to establish the datum. The datum itself is the theoretically exact reference (a point, line, or plane) derived from that feature. In practice, engineers use the terms loosely, but a drawing needs both: the datum feature symbol on the feature, and the datum reference in the feature control frame that uses it.
